Our History
In June, 2017, several committed and passionate individuals convened a small group to begin exploring the organizing a collective impact initiative for the purpose of addressing children and families who have been traumatized by Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and to help affect sustainable, healthy responses within our community. It began with a perceived problem that needed to be addressed, based on our observations and experience working with the Camp Curtin Community Preschool, which grew out of a identified unmet need for early child learning through the Camp Curtin Community Neighbors United (CCCNU) in uptown Harrisburg.
The group has since broadened its vision, beyond the Preschool, although still very much rooted in the Preschool, to include neighborhood (CCCNU) and the broader community. During this past year, the group that convened worked on an organizational framework. We have named ourselves Communities Practicing Resiliency (CPR) Harrisburg Region. We are now reaching out to expand participation. As you can see, our values and principles are collegial and communal, and our goals are broadly inclusive to address a range of community issues.

A Catalyst for CPR
According to the Kaiser/CDC ACE Study published in 1998 by Felitti, Anda, it measured three categories of adversity; abuse (physical, emotional and sexual), neglect (physical and emotional) and household dysfunction (domestic violence, separation or divorce, substance abuse, incarceration and mental illness) occurring before 18 years of age.
CPR Membership meets quarterly. Please click Calendar on the Home page to see all events.
Communities Practicing Resiliency is a Project of The Foundation for Enhancing Communities, fiscal sponsor.
